PBIS 101
This session will provide information on the basics of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). Using examples from Idaho schools, we will review the major components of the PBIS framework and discuss how to apply it school wide. We review the "why" behind PBIS and talk about the importance of setting school-wide expectations and teaching those to our students. We will discuss reinforcement, the functions of behavior, and the importance of creating a menu of consequences to help support our students when they struggle. Exploring the process of data-based decision making and how to collect and use data for problem solving will also be addressed.

Teaching the new Idaho Science Standards
Rigorous science instruction shifts the focus from learning about a topic to figuring out why or how something happens. It engages the student with inquiry and problem solving related to real-world phenomena and everyday situations. This session will explore how to utilize the Idaho Science standards to increase the level of student thinking by engaging them in higher-level questioning, academic discussions, and thoughtful work. This session will also examine how utilizing scientific phenomena helps to answer the question “why do I need to learn this” for students and build a relevant connection from the real world to the content.
