When many of us think of graphic novels and comic books, we think of superheroes. In recent years there’s been an explosion in the publishing world: graphic novels have gone far beyond superheroes, and include nonfiction and fiction across genres and content areas. These books are engaging for proficient readers and support literacy for all readers. This hands-on session will explore the best recently published graphic novels, including nonfiction works for history, science, geography, and art classrooms. We’ll also look at multiple genres of fiction in graphic novel format, and see how they can provide access points and connections to ELA curriculum.
