Misconceptions of Reinforcement

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

If you ever heard (or thought) the following about reinforcement, this session is for you!

"Reinforcement doesn't work"

"He shouldn't need reinforcement, he should just do what is asked"

"She can do it, she just won't"

Effective reinforcement is the most powerful tool of teaching, yet there is great misunderstanding about what it truly is and how to use it.

What is called "reinforcement" is many times the mis-use of a reward or privilege as either a "bribe" (quid pro quo) or a "lure" (an offer after the unwanted behavior). This session will clarify what effective reinforcement is and is not. The misuse of rewards can delay learning and make unwanted behavior worse!
