This session will provide information on the basics of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). Using examples from Idaho schools, we will review the major components of the PBIS framework and discuss how to apply it school wide. We review the "why" behind PBIS and talk about the importance of setting school-wide expectations and teaching those to our students. We will discuss reinforcement, the functions of behavior, and the importance of creating a menu of consequences to help support our students when they struggle. Exploring the process of data-based decision making and how to collect and use data for problem solving will also be addressed.
